From Biophilia to Naturalist Intelligence Passing Through Perceived Restorativeness and Connection to Nature- Juniper Publishers

Juniper Publishers-Open Access Journal of Annals of Reviews & Research Abstract This mini review looks at the affective bonds and the cognitive benefits at the basis of the relationship between human beings and Nature, as a solid starting point for an environmental education program aimed to foster naturalist intelligence. Evidences from studies of years of joint research in evolutionary biology and environmental psychology fields show a plausible overlapping between the constructs of Biophilia, Nature fascination and affiliation to life, and the measurable constructs of perceived restorativenesss and connection to Nature. Here we propose a theoretical model showing the role these constructs may play on the development of naturalist intelligence and eventually on pro-environmental behavior, i.e. the final aim of environmental education. In addit...

Trust in Law Enforcement- Juniper Publishers

Image
Juniper Publishers-Open Access Journal of Annals of Reviews & Research Abstract Trust exerts positive effects upon both objectives and self-rated health variables. Unconditional respect, when practiced in policing, induced higher levels of trust which in turn leads to enhanced communication, information sharing and joint problem-solving, and consequently more effective policing and a safer community. It is argued that subsequent to the genesis of trust, higher levels of positive effect, and changes in neurobiological processes underlying well-being affirmatively positive health-outcomes are assured. Keywords: Trust; Respect; Unconditional respect; Health; Health-outcomes; Positive affect; Police; Law enforcement Short Communication Trust is essential in all interpersonal interactions and the building of social networks [ 1 , 2 ]. Moreover, trust has been shown to be positively related to health [ 3 ]. The Psychology Dictionary...

MicroRNA-New Category of Diagnostic Biomarkers- Juniper Publishers

Image
Juniper Publishers-Open Access Journal of Annals of Reviews & Research   Introduction MicroRNAs (miRNA) are small (21-24 nucleotides) non-coding RNAs which are involved in negative posttranscriptional regulation of gene expression. One miRNA molecule can have up to hundreds of target mRNAs and one mRNA can be regulated by multiple miRNAs, creating a complex regulatory network in the body/organism [1].Changes in intracellular miRNA levels affect gene expression, alter cell signaling, and significantly affect cellular metabolism. They regulate physiological processes including cell differentiation, regeneration and apoptosis, as well as pathological processes such as neoplastic transformation of cells. Therefore, it is not surprising that aberrant miRNA expression is involved in the pathogenesis of many diseases including cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. To this day, more than 2,500 different microRNAs have been described in various do...

Breeding Sweet potato [Ipomoeaebatatas (L.) Lam] For Low Moisture Stress Tolerance- Juniper Publishers

Juniper Publishers-Open Access Journal of Annals of Reviews & Research   Abstract Sweet potato is important sources of carbohydrates, vitamins A and C, fiber, iron, potassium, and protein, Sweet potato is also used as animal feed. Increasing recognition of the great potential of the sweet potato crop as a nutritious food for humans and animals has resulted in intensified research efforts to enhance production and consumption. Sweet potato is sensitive to water deficits particularly during the establishment period including vine development and storage root initiation. However, drought is often a major environmental constraint for sweet potato production in areas where it is grown under rain fed conditions. Different cultivars may respond differently to limited quantities of soil water. Selection for good cultivar performance under drought conditions is thus considered to be of major importance.
